link to story http://ph.news.yahoo.com/gma/20100503/tsp-trap-wants-canadian-triathlete-to-be-9a97127.html

I'm sure this Canadian is a good athlete, but why look for foreigners to represent our country?  Huh
I'm sure we have a lot of athletes with GREAT potentials and talent, they just need to be supported and developed.  And we still have a lot of current Filipino athletes who are still able to compete at the highest level (example: Noy Jopson & Arland Macasieb)

Please share your thoughts on this news?

As for me even If I don't really know the whole story but from what I've just read it's appaling.

wala lang siguro jud silay strong triathlete to represent philippines sa olympic distance, noy jopson and arland is focusing man pod sa half-ironman and full ironman... the training of these longer distance events are a lot different sa ITU races.. mao pod bitaw to hinungdan ni quit katong strong bet nga pinoy coz he wants to train for longer distances rather than the olympic distance, thats why they are asking the service of the canadian.. no one is interested, kung naa man pod, dili kaayu deserving kai undertrained pa..

but i wont disagree nga naa politics involved ana.. anything nga naay money involved, naa jud na corruption.. its a disease most filipinos have.. such a shame lage pod.

I agree, maybe there is just not a Filipino athlete in the Philippines who is ready to compete with the big guns... However I find that hard to believe though, but then again I don't know the full story.  Maybe we should also ask Kenyan's to represent the Philippines in the marathon???

I actually admire this Canadian athlete who wants to represent our country, but what bothers me is that I don't see that TRAP has any strong grass root development program... Just to be fair also with TRAP, they are not the only organization that wants ready to go athletes.

I know daghan kaayo Filipino triathletes all over the world who are highly competetive, so hopefully in the future TRAP will set up a system so that these willing and able Filipinos athletes can be tap for their services so that we don't have to ask foreigners to represent us.

very well said cerrone.. if naa lang pod unta silay training pool for those who are talented and potentials...

ganahan silang good to go kai di sila ganahan mu budget sa training, natagam siguro sila atong pinoy nga ni decide to compete sa longer distance races.

I think there will be more RP team members if there is good compensation.
It is not all about money but passion too.
But it would be unfair if there is no balance between passion and money.
That's why some, well, i think most of the athletes tend to find money somewhere else.

The people you work with matters too.
