@Chono, Camotes is an Island. walay layo para sa NPA.
mananghid lang ta both parties. the left and the right.

camotes sounds promising...

Sige mag sked nya tag survey didto someday.

Medyo gasto gyod if adto camotes pero looking at the trend sa mga ironman events, iheld sya sa mga isla. Dili man hino-on ni dako atong 3-150-30 kay mora raman sad ni og inato. I'm sure nindot ang feel kung adto didto. Anyways plano plano paman sad, at least something to think about.

Going there: naa every friday night overnight ferry. Cebu-Cam and Cam Cebu every sunday night. abot na didto around 6-7AM.
Alternative travel: via bohol Jagna. daytime ferry/fastcraft daily. 8AM to Cam and 11AM from CAm to Hagna. Bus/vHire to Tagbilaran. para afternoon fastcrack 4-5-6pm sched

Run route kay from Paras to Town proper. 3 loops kung asa dapit ma abot ang 5Km mark sa turnabout. Naa somewhat steep incline sa run leg near sa church, then labyan ang municipal town towards Balbagon port.

Apologies everyone as my visaya is at a kindergarten level ( at best), but I caught something in this thread about doing an Ironman distance close by to Cebu. Just registered for this forum today in search of some answers and perhaps some help. I just did Ironman Langkawi in Malaysia a few weeks ago and I can tell you as I have told WTC, that the Philippines is capable of producing a much better race. They don't have any plans to add a full IM any time soon, according to their people, which is a shame.

I guess that would leave a more homegrown event, and there is nothing wrong with that considering that is how the sport began. I have nothing against Camsur, it's just that I 'd rather focus on longer distances. So if someone here was organizing a more local event, I say GO FOR IT!! and let's get trained up.

That's the real reason I am posting. Malaysia is a tough race for sure, but it is doable. I was able to give training about 10-12 hrs a week over 6 months...but it just wasn't enough on raceday...which i knew going in as I started training a little too far out of shape.

I'd like to fix that, someday,  but I know I need to change a few things about the training. Biggest challenge was getting a bike route that was accessible right out the door. I trained in Camotes, Camiguin and Bohol...great places, but not really practical if you live in cebu and hold down a full time job. Note on that---not many people I met in Langkawi are working day jobs..they have lots of disposable income and time--which they use to stay healthy much to their credit...and those are the people you will be competing against.

I rode Tops to death, but honestly that great hill is just not that realistic practice for Langkawi...which is rolling with 1 big, short hill and a few small ones.

So that leaves, our roads to the south and north. I have rode those a lot but i can't imagine a more unhealthy and dangerous route to train on, especially alone...please tell me someone has figured out a way to do so real road cycling without battling jeepneys and Ceres buses every 5 seconds?

Anyway--anyone thinking about Malaysia or this new race, let me know what you're training plans/routes are. I told myself I won't make any decisions about 2011 for another few months but it might sway me if we had a group of people in Cebu all committed to langkawi ( or the local race)...most of the filipinos i met in langkawi were from luzon...we need to change that!

For those worried about the IM distance or most likely the swim...do not worry. You can breast stroke it and still beat the cut off. Biggest limiters I see are finding a solid bike course and simulating the humidity, not the heat, of that island...many people blew their races overheating , getting nausea /heat exhaustion, or like me, suffering from unbearable cramps which electrolytes etc were unable to balance.

We have tentative schedule for the signature distance 3-150-30 ( month of November ) right after CamSur (august) and before the Cebu Marathon (January 2011). Currently, we have three locations to choose from; Town of Sibonga (south of cebu), Camotes Is, and Camiguin Is.

Hi malmo! Nice to know that someone not from luzon went there! Congrats on your IMLKW! If you are from cebu then you made history! First to finish in IMLKW!!!

May i ask, how many full IMs are under your belt already?

I am interested in IMLKW 2011 but not yet 100%.I still need to feel my training schedule starting next month. Juggling work, training & family will be a challenge. Training for a full IM is a lifestyle itself as i understand it. I don't have the lifestyle yet but will try to work on it.

Thanks everyone for the Welcome and I encourage all those on the fence about trying the longer distances to go for it. Life is short and it's a great accomplishment even to complete the training. Even the busiest of us can fit in an hour or two a day to train and that's really all it takes assuming you have competency in the each discipline. I find that the harder part of the process is to give up those weekend nights or those foods or those celebrations in order to consistently meet that commitment the next day. This was my 3rd Ironman and I was very lucky to have my better half completely buy into the training program. She had no athletic background at the start but I am telling you by the time we got to Malaysia, you'd be hard pressed to tell who was the competitor! Instead of hours at home or around town, we just were out riding or running.

Now as much as doing a long distance like this requires a fair amount of individual strength and drive, having a group of people focused on the same goal can really help the training blues go away.

About the tentative schedule, November seems like a good time for it. Just enough time to recover for Malaysia. Let me know how I can help.

As an aside, Camiguin would be a much more difficult race than Camotes but that would be my choice ( if you could arrange swim with the 3 knot current starting from white island to the shore)...I would actually recommend shortening the bike distance to 120k as that will give you 2 full loops around the island and believe me that is much tougher than the 180k you will find in Langkawi.

Happy training everyone.

very nice plans for ST signature distance, ill be training hard for this one and hopefully my skedule and budget will permit if it is to be held in camiguin. Camotes and Sibonga automatic ko join ani since it wouldn't need more time to travel than camiguin.

Go go go
