Basing from http://www.camotesresorts.com.ph/getting_there.htm it looks travel to camotes island is very frequent.

How much did it cost to travel to camiguin by the way?

camiguin more or less simulates langkawi while camotes is mostly flat i assume.

ST's 3-150-30 Inato

It might be too early to tell but the way i see it now, three to five people will emerge to join this small event. Even so, what matters is the training. I'm looking forward...

Blue, you have to come home to cebu when this happens.

Hi Chrono---Camotes was the #1 training option for me until the fast ferry started to get canceled every other Friday. Reason was that the slow boats from Danao took all the business,  but then it becomes an 8 hour travel weekend plus driving up to danao....too much for training in my opinion. Camiguin is also not an every weekend location but the 10-11 hr ferry is at least overnight and it feels like 2 hrs...1300 pesos , 600 for tourist class 1 way. Boat comes arrives 6 am monday morning at pier 8.

For these reasons, bohol emerged as the best place to go. Very easy to get to and while the terrain was not that challenging on panglao, you could make it so by going deeper inland towards the chocolate hills. Speaking of...that's not a best destination for a IM simulation race if not the real thing someday.

My recommendation, should a training group ever form is to rent a house in panglao and make that the home base. Rent would be 12-30K per month but split it up in some way, it might work. Maybe someone has a connection there and it  could be rented cheaper. That beach seems recession proof and people are renting their places everywhere you look. We rented a small room in poblacion for much less and it was about 1/4 the price of your average room in alona.

nice insights malmo!  i admire ur passion with triathlon! you are indeed loyal to the sport. Cheesy  maybe i might give the full Ironman a thought after my 1st 70.3 Ironman experience this august.  thanks for sharing!

Thanks everyone for the Welcome and I encourage all those on the fence about trying the longer distances to go for it. Life is short and it's a great accomplishment even to complete the training. Even the busiest of us can fit in an hour or two a day to train and that's really all it takes assuming you have competency in the each discipline. I find that the harder part of the process is to give up those weekend nights or those foods or those celebrations in order to consistently meet that commitment the next day. This was my 3rd Ironman and I was very lucky to have my better half completely buy into the training program. She had no athletic background at the start but I am telling you by the time we got to Malaysia, you'd be hard pressed to tell who was the competitor! Instead of hours at home or around town, we just were out riding or running.

Now as much as doing a long distance like this requires a fair amount of individual strength and drive, having a group of people focused on the same goal can really help the training blues go away.

About the tentative schedule, November seems like a good time for it. Just enough time to recover for Malaysia. Let me know how I can help.

As an aside, Camiguin would be a much more difficult race than Camotes but that would be my choice ( if you could arrange swim with the 3 knot current starting from white island to the shore)...I would actually recommend shortening the bike distance to 120k as that will give you 2 full loops around the island and believe me that is much tougher than the 180k you will find in Langkawi.

Happy training everyone.

kung distinct distance, pede ra na 180km +- 5km( 3 loops) sa island. though lisod cya kay malaspag na ka ana pero not ideal for s0 s0 athlete. Challenging gyud nuon ni.

for run, 30km (pede pud full Mary) pero agi ta Ardent hot spring; uphill 3-6km Honda-Marco Polo Lahug grade.

for swim, coastal swim sa Paras Beach Resort. 3.0km - 3.8km

OT. Naka read ko one book about 30 years sa Ironman. That time, wala cla support crew.. cla2x lang, NO time limit, just to finish the distance lang gyud cla.

uli ko cebu ana by NoV. im thinking of longer distances and killer climbs sa bike and run leg sa if ever sa camiguin man na held ang Signature distance.

if ever, naa man ta ma "sampit" for sponsor sa stay (less than ten person) and food if ever since food man ilang negosyo. hehe.. pero palit lang ta sa ilaha since halos gamit na na sa ilang amenities... ako na ni cya na inform nga interested ko mag triathlon ako2x lang pag adto nako last time (Jan 10') he said he can lead me to the Governor for further support.... nice lead but i think its too soon to project sa event big time but rather inato lang usa.

As for training, atleast 2x buac, busay climb will suffice the requirement for LKW hills ( i think). Long ride to cebu south every week- end (Municipality of Boljo-on, 100Km +-5km), while for the rest of the week goes to mactan or danao for an easy spin.

Weekly or scheduled open water distance swimming will tests one's open water confidence and navigational skills. While ofchores Wink, run everyday gyud na; from easy recovery of 30 mins to regular session of 60-90 mins run. Not to mention pa diay sa weekly long runs pa nato and mga LSD's. Cheesy

Better if mag brick on weekdays labi na after regular bike ride.. 30 mins easy brick run.

what dyu think Chono?

Chono, this is my first ever long distance triathlon; AVIVA 2010.  First nako tri pag December sa Plantation 3-15-3, sukad ato naka decide ko join AVIVA. Sa December kay mostly food, food, food nya ni larga ko, so walay training nahitabo... Pag Jan nag plot for Jan 24 first tri season for ST. Seldom long rides on weekends and an easy run every other day 30mins min and 90 mins max. Swim nag focus lang ko sa form; form, drills, form, drills on and off. Sa Feb rako naka "long ride" gyud with the help of weak-end warriors. First ride to Cebu-Naga-Uling-Cebu. Then naka 2 rides to Catmon. On week days, run to willy's on tues, and ride to willy's on thurs. Then sa balay, two days per week ko naay weight training.. muscle specific for tri. 10-20 mins lang gud, pero wla pa ko ka core ato. Sa food, less input and more ouput lang. hehe... for swimming, nag total immersion ko and Chi running w/c conserves energy and lessens running injury, both are effective and im lahbing it! So mao na akong preparation for 70.3 Jan and Feb lang ko nag "training" for longer tri distance. X_X

Blu i think your fitness level is ready for your first 70.3. Slowly but surely lang but not too slow. hehe. Whatever you think is doable and somewhat relaxed pace. It's all about energy conservation to finish line.

Hopefully we can iron out the details for ST's 3-150-30 Inato...

As for my training plan, i don't have one yet. Maybe by next month.

@malmo: Thanks for the details! Let's keep the discussion roll'n
