report:
last monday, ate something bad, w/c i only got to realize now. after i ate lunch at Julie's fastfood marina mall, i felt like throwing up for the rest of the week..
tuesday, bike to work only..
wednesday, REST..
thursday, 9am, flew to manila w/ noy. this day, i felt weak na, never bothered to tell partner noy as i didnt want to be another baggage to him..i never really had good appetite this day, even with the delicious meals prepared at noys' house..after we were picked up by joyette,we went straight to LIFE cycle bike shop at greenhills. met the other MAVERICK there, who was looking at chopper bikes..
ate brunch at pizza hut, then went to noy's place. we took a nap, then we went to UP DIL & did a fast 5k run, i was so tired..
FRIDAY, we woke up @ 7am. noy, joyette & i went to ultra in pasig & were supposed to swim run. joyette did quick run intervals, then we all swam, i did 1.1 k, noy did 1.3k.......at around 3pm, off we went to SUBIC..we passed through the new SCTEX (subic-clark-tarlac expwy)...we were then billeted at LEGENDA...gi takigan ko sa katugnaw (had chills bcoz of the cold)...we then went to whiterock resort for the registration..i was overwhelmed w/ all the personalities i saw & met. from actor/host Drew arellano to News anchor Tricia Chiongbian to Zobel Ayala to Fred Uytengsu to Rolando Andaya II of DBM (correct ba?)...was a bit shy bcoz i borrowed noy's Polo Tri shirt & all polo tri members were wondering who i was. then we all went back to subic, ate dinner at Extremely Xpresso (pizza, pasta, mashed potato, french fries, baby back ribs w/ lotsa corn), despite the lami (ver very good) food i ate a little as i had no appetite...
SATURDAY, race morning, woke up at the sound of my alarm @ 4am, stood up at 5 am, i was still feeling so full, still had no appetite, tried to eat banana chips, still i threw it up...
THE RACE,
At the swim start, just after 250 mtrs of swimming, i threw up...did 20 mins. per lap swim, i was swimming comfortable but had no real power..middle of the 2nd lap, i threw up again. the last 330 meters, i threw up 3x, so all my dinner were gone...during the bike leg, i only managed to down 3 gels & gatorade...i really had no power, i even shifted to small ring on a climb w/c is as comparable as the banawa climb to convergys. i was so slow my ave. was only 30kph, i was even passed by old mommas & fat guys on the course...even noy's sister joyette who was only 100meters away from me at the bike u-turn, dropped me & left me for many kilometers....
during the start of the run, i walked till the first aid station at km1. had water, sponge & ice...though the extreme heat ddidnt affect me much, cycling & running empty did it for me, i literally BONKED. i ate half of my hammer power bar, i threw it up again. now running along "Heartbreak hill", i thought it really didnt break my heart, it broke my body, 80% i walked the 21 kms run course..at km 11, i felt better, at this point i was able to eat bananas & oranges at an aid station, rested for 10 mins. & off i went again... was so tired at 1 point that i had to really sit on the roadside w/ my head down, i was surprised to be tapped & asked by rolando andaya if i was OK. after exiting subic gate, climb again, & drizzle follwed.
along the climbs, i stopped a couple of times to stretch, even gambled w/ cutting road corners so i could just get back faster..at the last aid station, i finally had coke, a little shower, then ran like hell for the last 2k only to walk down from the whiterock resort gate to the red carpeted finsih line...
was so glad to have finished the race in 7hrs. 30 mins., just 30 mins. away from cut off time of 8hrs.
