La Routa 2010
The LA ROUTA Adventure Race is a mix of several passions. Beyond being just another adventure race, the La Routa is a unique human experience. The race is more than just a test of skill and human endurance, it is above all else a test of character.
A HUMAN EXPERIENCE
Joining the La Routa is in some ways conquering one’s self. Self-doubt borne of fatigue and temptations borne from the desire to dominate other teams are a constant presence through out the race. Only by accepting one’s capabilities and playing by the rules can one truly comprehend the essence of the competition.
A REGIONAL EVENT
The La Routa Adventure Race is the most awaited adventure sporting event in the region. On its 10th year this year, it is currently the longest running adventure race in the country. It is participated by teams not just throughout region 8, but teams from other Visayas and nearby Mindanao provinces as well. The 2009 race had 42 participating teams.
The La Routa Adventure Race Circuit will also feature the outdoor destinations of eastern Visayas idyllic for hosting such events. The different legs of the circuit will be held in four key areas throughout region 8 namely; Maasin City, Southern Leyte close to the renowned dive sites of Pabre Burgos, Tanauan, Leyte considered the birth place of skim boarding in the Philippines, Catarman, Northern Samar facing the pacific ocean and close to the Biri Island rock formations and Tacloban City gate way to eastern Visayas.
A NATIONAL LEVEL COMPETITION
More than just a simple adventure race. Owing to the short amount of time in which the race is run, the La Routa is more of a sprint than a marathon. Teams of three persons each without support crews are expected to carry all their equipment with them. They are subjected to extreme physical and mental conditions. Teams are required to navigate through a series of sequential control points using a combination of compass bearing and distance, triangulations, coordinates, riddles and puzzle using a map with a very different set of scale; 1:37,327 which changes every year. This has never been done in any other races.
In the La Routa, endurance is essential and rock-solid navigational capability is fundamental. This mix of physical rigor and technical performance draws teams from diverse backgrounds to compete in the race.
For this year, the Final leg of the La Routa adventure race circuit will feature two (2) levels; National and Local, with two categories for the national level; Masters and Veterans and three (3) categories for the local level; Elite, Candidates and Aspirants. All the teams will start in mass and will be divided to the different categories once they are cut off in pre-determined cut off points. The La Routa is designed by Mr. Jason Garrido, race director of Carrera Habagat, the only four day non-stop race in Asia and considered the longest and toughest adventure race in the Philippines.
