MANILA – Fifteen Filipino triathletes will compete in the Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 on Saturday (Sunday in Manila) in Clearwater, Florida.
Among the Filipinos who will compete are Sen. Pia Cayetano and Noy Jopson, the Filipino champion of the 1st Cobra Energy Drink Ironman 70.3 Philippines held last August.
The other Pinoy triathletes who will race in Clearwater are Andy Aguila, Adonis Edwin Co, Ani de Leon, Peter Gonzalez, Arland Macasieb, Michael Angelo Mandap, Joaquin Moreno, Jose Antonio Narciso, Juan Rufino, Rene Ricardo Tayag, Alexander Tiu, Ricardo Paulo and Jose Raphael Zapanta.
They will compete against 1,635 other triathletes from 54 country around the globe.
The Ironman 70.3 has a 1.2-mile swim, 56-mile bike and 13.1-mile run. The event offers a total professional prize purse worth $100,000.
The United States has the most number of participants with 753, followed by Canada with 138 triathletes, and Great Britain with 104 competitors, the event’s official website noted.
The Foster Grant Ironman World Championship 70.3 race will begin and end at Pier 60 in Clearwater Beach.
Several pre- and post-race activities will be held at the Harborview Center and Sand Key Resort. With a report from Philstar.com
