Jopson Rules Danao 3-15-3 Triathlon

Cebu was blessed with a good weather last Sunday as the 3-15-3 Danao Triathlon finally kicked off with several triathletes answering the starting gun. It was the only 3-15-3 triathlon event in the last 6 months.

Showing the form that made him the 1st Philippine 70.3 Ironman Champion, Noy Jopson bested everyone in ruling the 2nd Danao 3-15-3 Triathlon yesterday at Sands Beach Resort. Noy finished the 300 meter swim, 15k bike and 3k run in 38:01. At 2nd place was Ralph Arche with a time of 40:46 and Franz Baguio occupied the 3rd spot with a time of 43:22.

In the Mountain Bike category, Lyndon Dongallo was declared the champion by finishing with a time of 45:57. At 2nd spot was Engr. Meljohn Tezon at 47:46 and James Noval came in 3rd at 48:16.

Newcomer Vince Lovell Mahinay did just enough as he ruled the Juniors (18 below) division while Kristian Cabahug, a 70.3 Philippine Ironman campaigner, was the champion in the Seniors 20 with a time of 47:32. He was followed by Gabriel Lamparas who finished in 2nd place at 51:35 and Clark Anthony Arche was at 3rd with 53:51.

Carlo Bacalla, another 70.3 Philippine Ironman survivor, topped the Masters division by finishing in 50:14. Occupying 2nd place was Elmer Banson in 52:01 while Cesar Telen came in 3rd with a time of 53:24.

Team PLDT composed of Francisco Arche Jr and Efren Enrile ruled the inaugural Tandem Category while Team Emily, an all female team from Lexmark secured the 2nd spot.

The race was made possible by Councilor Boying Rodriguez, Danao Sports Commission and Sugbu Triathlon. The 3rd leg of the Danao 3-15-3 Triathlon series is scheduled on October 18, 2009.
