I'm sharing my experience in todays Tri Race i did. It's the Harryman Triathlon Half/Olympic distance organized by the Genesis Adventure. This local race is usually popular around the area for those who are doing the Full IM in Lake Placid, NY. The reason being the race course over mimics the course in Lake Placid and as a guage on where your fitness is for this time of the season. But a lot of Tri Peeps try to stay away from this race because it has a reputation of being very hard. In the past years: Average swim temp is in the 52 F/ 11 C. Bike has no flats at all it is either your going up or down and same on the run.
http://www.genesisadventures.com/v4/main.php?left=triathlons¢er=harrymantri#The%20CourseI opted to do the Olympic distance which they have as a 0.6 miles/1 km Swim, 29 mile/ 47 Km Bike and 6.2 mi/ 10 K run. My goal was to race without a watch and do everything by feel. I wanted to have a decent swim(under 15 mins), controlled Bike( under 1H40mins) and strong run( under 45 mins).
I was pretty excited yesterday cause the weather called for a sunny AM with showers in the late afternoon but woke up with a bit of disappointment. It was gloomy, dark and drizzling( Ayay pwerting bugnawa aning swim karon!!!!). I prepared everything yesterday and placed it already ready sa Car. Woke up at around 0630 AM and had a quick BF , grabbed my coffee then off I go.
This were pix i got when i was driving to the race site:

This was the packet pick-up tent. Water temp read 62 F/16.5 C.... wohoooo at least init init gamay and tubig.

Pictures sa swim with cones leading to the Transition. Barely could see the first bouy because of the fog!!

Picked my packet and ready to go!!

Of course my mistress... Also wore the Vellum cycling shirt during the race para tabang promotion sa taga sugbo !!!!

And the transition area(look at the bike racks they made):

Hantud dinha rako kay after this the rain poured and fog got worst. The organizers eventually had to do it as a duathlon which was a
1.5 mile/ 2.5 km run, 29 mile bike and 10 k run.
During the first part of run I must have been in the top 20's then took my time in T1 as I planned it and did a controlled bike. In the bike, I would say not a lot of people passed me by( from what I counted about 8 and 2 were women.... nindot ba gyud). Because it was drizzling and weather was cool i forgot to hydrate during the bike. I probably only finished only 1 small water bottle druing the bike and I paid for it during the 10 k run. During the T2 I would say i must have been within the first people in kay gamay raman kaayong bikes racked when coming in. Took my time again as I planned to have a good run. The run out and back run which consisted climbing 3 hills out and 3 hills back. Me not hydrating on the bike killed me kay just in the middle of the 1st hill my left quad and calve cramped up. I ended up walking and jogging instead of pushing it on the run. I would say at least 30 people passed me on the run. Lessoned learned but at least I know the engine had more to give pero na flattan lang.
Overall the race must have been the hardest Olympic I've done.
Would I do it again? Hmmmm, I think about it!!!
Sorry sa tanan, daghan unta kaayo distractions pero nakalimot ka kay lingaw man gud sila tanaon....

. Next time nalang.
Wyckoff Tri, here I come...... Kaning Race wala na gyud If's and but's.
Till next time,
Brian
