FORD Ironman World Championship qualifiers Noy Jopson and Rochelle Tan of team Rueven topped the men’s and women’s division of the 2nd leg of the Summit Triathlon Team Championship Series yesterday in Siquijor Island.

Jopson finished the 1.5-kilometer swim, 40K bike and 10K run in 2:18.49 to secure the title over Equi Credit’s Ralph Martin Sios-e (2:21.25) and teammate Gerrie Calinawan (2:22.07).

Have something to report? Tell us in text, photos or videos.

In the women’s division, Tan finished the race in 2:54.47, beating first leg top finisher Loveleinell Casidsid (3:23.45) and Michelle Garcia Shlachter (3:30.02).

“I enjoyed the race a lot. The bike route was somewhat hard because it was hilly but at least it wasn’t hot at all since there were lots of trees around,” Tan told Sun.Star Cebu.

Other winners were Emmanuel Comendador in the men’s 20-29 division, Jose Merdino Lim in the men’s 30-39 division, Trino Rey Trasmonte in the men’s 40-49 division, and Rick Dizon in the men’s 50-and above.

By Caecent No-ot Magsumbol (The Freeman) Updated February 06, 2012 12:00 AM Comments (0) View comments

CEBU, Philippines - Multi-titled Cebuano triathlete Noy Jopson led the winners' cast in the Summit Triathlon Team Championships yesterday at the Salagdoong Beach in Maria, Siquijor.

Jopson bagged the title with the time of two hours, 18 minutes and 49 seconds. Ralph Martin Seos-e was a distant second with a 2:21.25 clocking as Gerrie Calinawan wound up third in 2:22.07.

The likes of Emmanuel Comendador, Jose Merdino Lim,Trino Rey Transmonte and Ric Dizon caught part of the spotlight after ruling their respective divisions.

Comendador topped the men’s 20-29 age bracket with the time of 2:23.56 followed by Franz Baguio (2:24.05) and Ralph Arche (2:24.34), while Lim lorded it over in the 30-39 class with the time of 2:27.24.

Trino Rey Transmonte dominated the 40-49 division, while Dizon ruled the 50-above class in 3:06.35.

In the distaff side, Rochelle Tan made up from her absence in the first leg of this Sugbu Triathlon-organized event by emerging as the top female triathlete in the second leg with the time of 2:54.47. She bested Loveleinell Casidsid (3:23.45) and Michelle Garcia-Shlachter (3:30.02).

Pamela Apuhin won the female open class with a 3:53.35 clocking. Ida Maghanoy and Mirian Libre took the next two spots.

Team Summit tries to keep hold of lead as Triathlon C’ship Series fires off today

TEAM Summit hopes to solidify its hold of the top spot as the second leg of the Triathlon Team Championship Series comes off wraps in Salagdoong Beach in Maria, Siquijor today.

Team Summit, manned by Jose Merdino Lim, Kristian Cabahug, Joseph Larida and Loveleinell Casidsid, has accumulated a total of 54 points after dominating the first leg held last November in Dauis, Bohol.

The team relegated Tribo and NFYNEAT to second and third places, respectively.

Team Summit, however, may have a hard time protecting its lead with four new teams registering for the event.  These are Fish 18 Sport, Team Reuven, Tri-core PowerAde and Team Equi.

The event is organized by the Sugbu Triathlon with the help of Summit Mineral Water and Concepto Primero. The second leg is also hosted by the province of Siquijor .

This event is a team contest with each team composed of four members. Team composition could be all-male, all-female or mixed.

Teams will negotiate the standard Olympic distance of 1.5-kilometer swim, 40-km bike and 10-km run.

The event also includes a competition in the age group categories with an individual winner to be announced per leg.  /CORRESPONDENT MARS G. ALISON

For the results, hopefully within the week or next week. Coach B & fam, Ric & Helen Dizon are not yet back in Cebu. Yesterday, Coach b was stuck in Sibulan, Dumaguete. Ric is scheduled to return to Cebu today from Siquijor. Let's pray for their safe travel and also for the earthshake to stop.

I felt two aftershocks this morning. Last night there were about three aftershocks after 6pm. During my sleep, I didn't feel any. hehe.

Alrights enjoy!
