Cebu Triathlon HISTORY

Triathlon began its journey in Cebu during the year of 1996. These events were organized by people from Luzon. I'm not sure if there were more than one. If I remember correctly there was Powerade sprint triathlon. This events led to a birth of a few groups namely Tri-locos, Tri-huevos, & Unified Triathletes Association (UTA) to mention a few. Cebu experienced approximately five inspirational triathlons in 1997, which lead to the rapid growth of the sport. Year 1998 was a disappointment to the triathlon community in Cebu due to the decline of local triathlon races. To keep the athletic spirit alive and to help develop potential athletes, Benjoe Gimenez and Angeline Ninal of UTA formed Funsports which made its history in organizing triathlons in the local scene.
